السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ
Tawheed:
Linguistic definition: comes from Wahhadah which means: To make one, to unify
Ex. Tawheed Al-Bilaad (the unification of the country)
It can also mean to affirm something.
In a technical/Islamic sense:
Tawheed is to affirm the oneness of Allah in 3 ways (or 2 ways).
- Affirm Allah in his actions(Nobody does what Allah does except Allah):
a. Allah creates.
b. Allah sustains.
c. Allah legislates.
d. Allah judges.
e. Allah listens to prayers.
f. Allah listens.
g. Allah sees.
h. Allah has mercy.
- We might be able to listen, see, etc. but not like how Allah listens, sees, etc.
- Affirm our actions toward Allah(the actions we do towards Allah, we only do to Allah/Any act of worship is for Allah alone)
a. We only make dua to Allah.
b. We only slaughter for the sake of Allah.
c. We only pray to Allah.
d. We only bow to Allah.
- Most important part of Tawheed
-This was the Tawheed the Messengers came with
- Affirm the Perfect Names and Attributes of Allah.
-These names and Attributes are for Allah alone
-These are suited to His Majesty
-These are unlike his creation
-We believe in the apparent meaning
-We don’t deny them
-We don’t ask more than what is clear to us
Some scholars said Tawheed is two categories. They do this by grouping the 1st category and the 3rd together. So they get:
- Allah’s actions(includes the Perfect Names and Attributes)
- Our actions towards Allah(Worship of Allah)
Allah knows best.
