السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ

The Quraysh believed in:
Allah:
-The Creator
-The Sustainer
-Causes life and death
-Sends down the rain

• Answers prayers in times of need
• Controller of the universe

This shows that the Quraysh believed in Allah’s Rububiyah(Lordhip). The issue is the idols.

Idols of:
-Angels
-Trees
-Stars
-Pious people
-Dead people
-Sun and moon
-Prophets

They do this for two reasons:

1. They make idols as intercessors

Evidence:
“Surely the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allâh only. And those who take Auliyâ’ (protectors, helpers, lords, gods) besides Him (say): “We worship them only that they may bring us near to Allâh.” Verily Allâh will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Truly, Allâh guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever. (39:3)”

2. To get near to Allah

They didn’t believe these idols could harm or benefit directly.

Unfortunately, this is the state of many Muslims today. We have returned to the time of Jahilliyah(ignorance/time before Muhammed ﷺ)
